The Last Summer
This project embodies the artist’s fading glimpses of her childhood summers before her sisters graduate and leave home. The photos also serve as a way of escaping the COVID-19 pandemic. While wandering around with her camera, Wilkins attempted to divert her attention to the small moments of joy and beauty in her daily life. Her sisters and parents were her muses, and she intended on encapsulating the youthful freedom of her family’s summers at home. Rather than looking back at the summer of 2020 with sorrow, Wilkins hopes that “The Last Summer” will encourage her to remember the tranquil, nostalgic scenes with her family during a time of uncertainty.
Maddie Wilkins is a BA Photography student at Falmouth University, England. Her camera is her fifth limb, and she is forever holding up her family and friends on walks as she searches for the perfect composition in every scene. Wilkins has a wide range of interests within photography, from global issue campaigns to documentary series of the everyday. She believes that the camera gives her a powerful and universal voice to move the viewer.
