General Guidelines:
Please read before submitting.
Theme: submissions are not restricted to any topic but must pertain in some way to the theme of the open call. We emphasize work that pushes against conventional modes of thinking about culture and society (particularly in non-Western and/or marginalized settings). No word limits.
Biography: provide a 50-100 word biography with your submission, regardless of its category. The biography should state your name, where you are from, and the kind of work you make. Please include any of your social media handles and/or projects or personal websites you would like us to link to.
Editing: note that your work will be assigned to an editor who will make changes, comments, and suggestions to your piece via Google Docs. Please be responsive when your editor reaches out to you.
Simultaneous submissions: we accept simultaneous submissions, but let us know as soon as possible if your piece has been accepted elsewhere.
Previously published work: we accept work that has been published elsewhere, but be sure to inform us and provide the name of the previous publisher(s) so we can credit them.
Art/Text Pairing: Please be aware that by submitting your piece, you are permitting it to enter in conversation with one or more pieces that may approach the issue theme at a different angle.
Category-Specific Guidelines:
Poetry Submissions
Submit no more than 3 poems per issue. Submissions with more than 3 poems will not be considered.
Fiction and Arts and Culture Submissions
Submit work that is no longer than 3000 words. The Arts and Culture category includes all essays and creative nonfiction. We also welcome pitches.
Visual Art Submissions
Send high-quality images/scans of your work in order to be considered, along with a short description of your work and an artist bio. Do not submit more than 5 separate works per issue unless you are submitting a series or photo-essay.
Video Submissions
Send a Vimeo link or YouTube link for us to review.
Non-English Submissions:
We welcome work in any and all languages. Please provide an English translation with your submission. A wider audience could have access to your work if you can provide an English translation. This will also help us in our editorial process. We also welcome submissions that mix English with other languages.
