POST-COLONIAL SPORTZ TEAMS

POST-COLONIAL SPORTZ TEAMS is a satirical project turning the visual language of contemporary branding on its head to reveal hidden truths buried deep within the social fabric of society. These are sports team emblems that now show the possibility of what a team logo can be, and break any ideological constraints of what sports team logos are in defining what a sport is.

This is branding made abstract, and fun.

David Straange (b. 1992) from Charlotte, North Carolina, is the son of a fraud bank analyst mother, and a war veteran father. Straange’s work is informed by his diverse study of sculpture, jazz, ballet, art history, analog photography, theater, cultural communications, and anthropology. Primarily working in painting and drawing, his practice also includes artist books and music. Straange’s earliest memories include gas being 99 cents, going to Burger King to get french toast sticks (four pieces), being afraid of grass, and listening to his brother freestyle emcee over the radio.
