Data Playground
Data Playground is a series about our everyday online activity. The way we engage in a stream of information and how this generates vast amounts of personal data on us that benefits a handful of big companies.
Recently I watched The Social Dilemma. I was well aware that social media companies are building archives of data on us. But what shocked me was that these companies are actually using that information to predict and change our behavior. And this is causing a change in us on the things we like and dislike, love and hate and specifically what we see and don't see.
The digital world is great and using the stuff makes our lives seem easier, more fun and in many ways can feel so natural. But I think we should really stop to think how our scrolling and clicking habits are being used by companies who are treating our data, our lives, like a playground they can run and climb all over.
