Archaeologies of the Environment
Through effective scenes and visual montages, Fernanda Morales Tovar explores, on canvas, the analogies and dialectics existing in the environment, namely linkages between nature and urban devices in everyday life. Tovar creates a visual archaeology based on interpretations and proposals of signs for the intersection of spaces, human beings, stories, ruins, and the landscape. To do this, she employs optical distortions in her painting to help render a different perspective of reality and to “contemplate” it with fresh staging. Tovar’s work arises from the impulse to truly confront our immediate surroundings.
